What is a CRS anyway?

Category IV. Church-Related Schools
Tennessee State Law, T.C.A. 49-50-801 allows schools to operate legally in the state of Tennessee if the school is operated by a church or bona-fide church organization and is a member of one of the associations listed in said law. Victory Academy belongs to TANAS (Tennessee Association of Non-Public Academic Schools) which is one of the associations listed. This is what makes us and you as a member of Victory Academy a legal educational entity in the State of Tennessee.  Families from other states may join Victory Academy, however, you need to know the law that covers your particular state.  For this information we suggest you consult the Department of Education in your state or The Homeschool Legal Defense Association.
The Department of Education has no direct involvement with this section of Tennessee Law and, therefore, does not extend the title of accreditation to schools that seek this legal covering.

What if we are transferring from another school?

We accept transfers from other schools at any time during the school year.  The necessary paperwork will need to be filled out and received by our office.  It might be necessary to have your student(s) take an assessment (placement) survey to determine where to start your student.  This even aids us to determine what curriculum might be best.

When and how long do I teach?

One  thing we can tell you at this point is "RELAX"!  There are requirements of 180 days with 4 hours of instruction each.  We have found that your schedule will allow you to actually do more as you organize your days and have a plan that fits your lifestyle.  Some may be able to teach in the mornings, some may split up the day, some may more than four hours and some may do only four hours.  You do not have to teach all subjects each day.  You are the one in charge!  Discover how best your student learns, not memorizes, and allow that schedule to flow!  You will have more fun, get more done and have a successful and happier student.

Do I need some kind of certification to teach?

In the State of Tennessee you do not have to be certified to teach.  You must, however, have at lease a high school diploma or a GED to teach grades 9-12.  You have the ability to teach.  Actually what you want to do is to teach your student how to learn.  Once they see that learning is fun and rewarding they will in some ways teach themselves.

How do I get started?

Well, by investigating our website as well as probably others you are started!  It all starts with a decision and a desire to follow God's plan for families.
Deuteronomy 6:6 -9 (KVJ) "And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates."

We applaud you decision and want to be a help to you to be successful.  We have from available on this web ste that you may print off and fill out to begin enrolling.  From there it is step by step.  We here at Victory Academy and our partners at Crossroads Christian Bookstore are here to help.  This is a partnership not just another organization.

What about grades?

Wow, you ask some good questions!  Grades are meant for benchmarks not a system for rewards or punishment.  As you give questions and the student supply the answers, you will gather information on what their pace of learning is and where they are excelling and where they need help.  You will average these scores and send them to us one a quarter.  As we receive these scores, we will review them and if we believe it necessary contact you with suggestions.  You can use your own forms for reporting or use the ones we supply (we prefer these to keep things a bit easier for our staff).

What about achievement tests?

We like to refer to these as surveys!  The words "Achievement Tests" have been much maligned and therefore cause some students to fear them and not do as well as they are able.  We are certified to give the Stanford Achievement Test (SAT) and well as placement testing.  In our literature, we give details for the testing, but in short we require testing for grades 2, 5, 7 and 9.  We also strongly suggest that you consider using this tool for grades 10, 11, and 12.  This is a TOOL for you to plan ahead for your students' requirements for the future.  We give the surveys in a very relaxed atmosphere to afford the student every opportunity to excel. There is a fee for this testing.  Please consult the fee schedule for current pricing.
There are several sites across the State of Tennessee where you can take these surveys.  We just happen to be one of them.

What about the future?

Many colleges are recognizing the value of the homeschooled student. Read recently where a 13 year old homeschooled student enrolled in a major university!  Of course this may be an exception but it does speak to the willingness of colleges to admit homeschooled students even in what we might call a rare situation.  As a student fulfills all the requirements for graduation, we will issue a Victory Academy diploma.  Upon request Victory Academy will supply all transcripts needed for application of admission to an institute of higher learning.  There have been many testimonies of scholarships, awards and successes for homeschoolers who choose to go on to college.
